Colitis presenting with erythema nodosum

A most interesting case out of the textbook.
Patient in the 20s walked into the clinic. Has been referred to me for a colonoscopy.
First thing I noticed was the reddish nodules on the shins of both the legs. The patient says that these has been quite painful. The pain had thougth this was due to mosquito bites or some sort of reaction to insect bites. (Clinically on examination, this was consistent with erythema nodosum)
Further history taking reveals the patient has been having diarrhoea. The patient had also been feeling tired.
Colonoscopy was performed and it showed proctitis as well as distal colitis. Biospsies were taken – histology was initially reported as normal but when I queired it with the pathologist, a second opinion was sought and the consensus opinion was that is was consistent with ulcerative colitis.

, I rate this article for four from five. Decent info, but I have to go to that damn yahoo to find the missed pieces. Thank you, anyway!
I am 26, at age 16 i suffered with erythema nodosum, it was very painfull and was spread over my 2 legs and lasted for about 3 months. I had to see 3 doctors before any diagnosis was made. i have been noticing blood appearing from my rectum for a while now. I am finally going to try and go to the doctor this week, until now i have been too embarrased to say anything. My aunty died from bowel cancer around the age of 40 and my grandmother also had it, but they managed to remove it. I’m pretty sure my mum has had polyps removed and my dad is going in for a colonoscopy as well. I am absolutely terrified, and am worried the doctors will brush me off cause of my age. i live on the gold coast and was wondering if there is any doctors i should be seeing that specialise in this area.
My spouse and i have been contented Albert could finish up his survey out of the precious recommendations he obtained out of the web site. It’s not at all simplistic to simply possibly be offering concepts that many others have been trying to sell. And we all understand we now have the blog owner to appreciate for that. The entire illustrations you have made, the easy blog navigation, the relationships your site aid to promote – it is all astonishing, and it’s letting our son and the family imagine that that issue is amusing, and that is really mandatory. Thank you for the whole thing!
